Outdoors education is a big part of the Foundation’s mission, and a major objective is the development of educational forums for all ages to help foster an appreciation and responsibility for San Diego’s natural environment and history. Ways that we can do this is to help interested people learn some of the skills they will need to make their outdoors experience safer and more enjoyable. And we can also show people just what it’s like to be out on the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail.
Learning outdoors skills on the Trail
If prospective outdoors people know how to use a map or compass and have instruction in general hiking, backpacking, biking or horse riding skills, they’re more likely to enjoy their time in the outdoors. And feel safer. The Foundation is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have excellent hiking, backpacking, mountain biking or equestrian skills, and are keen to share it with those who don’t.
You could be working with schoolchildren, individuals, families or community and minority interest groups.
Leading groups out on the Trail
Some people just don’t feel confident enough to experience the outdoors on their own, but desperately want to get out there. We want to help them to do so, by exploring the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail. And some may have hiked all their lives but never experienced the joys of mountain biking or horse riding. We want to help them too.
The Foundation is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have excellent hiking, backpacking, mountain biking or equestrian skills, and are keen to not only demonstrate these skills, but help others learn them, as well as leading them along the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail.
You could be working with schoolchildren, individuals, families or community and minority interest groups.
