San Diego
Sea to Sea Trail Foundation
Working to build business and local community partnerships
Who are we:
The most basic mission of the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail Foundation is to build a 140-mile long, safe and traffic-free multi-use (equestrians, cyclists, hikers and disabled adventurers) trail that will run from North Beach, Torrey Pines to the Salton Sea, California. It will pass through 13 micro-climates and gorgeous scenery that includes beach, coastal wetlands, mountains, lakes, streams and desert – no where else in the world is all this in just 140 miles.
We are also committed to:
- Helping to preserve San Diego’s diverse eco-systems;
- Development of educational forums for all ages to foster an appreciation and responsibility for San Diego’s natural environment and history;
- Encouraging greater use and financial support of San Diego County’s trail systems through sponsorship, to achieve more open space preservation and outdoor recreational opportunities;
- Creating a ‘best practice’ model in trail building for physically challenged trail users.
What we can do for you:
Alliances are essential to most companies to help promote their business and local community involvement, as well as giving employees a sense of community and company pride. We want to partner with you to help achieve this for your company, and we can do this in a number of ways. You may have ideas of you own – share them with us. A few first ideas are:
- Create a variety of volunteer opportunities for your employees and their families: Adopting sections of the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail and helping to build and maintain the Trail.
- Adopting sections of the Trail and planting native habitats along it.
- Leading community groups along the Trail, to bring the Trail alive and help promote it as a local community resource.
- Joining our education program, ‘Taking the Trail to Schools’. We host a number of programs and are always looking for volunteers keen to help promote and educate on the natural and historical diversity of San Diego County.
- Develop team-building exercises based around the Trail.
- We can offer trail work opportunities to help bring employees together and engender a sense of pride in their and their company’s commitment to San Diego’s environment, by hosting trail work days on various sections of the Trail. These could be any day of the week and/or be held over a weekend. If your company adopted a particular section of the Trail, we could help host a private annual event where all local employees helped to maintain ‘their’ Trail section.
- Encourage the development of in-house hiking/walking and biking clubs to use the Trail in their lunch break, before and after work and as a means of commuting to work.
Overall, your employees will be given invaluable opportunities to work on the Trail as Diggers, Trailblazers and Trail Guardians, to help build, teach, lead trail projects, design alternative environmentally sound trail experiments and educational projects.
Already, we have had teams from Qualcomm, Nokia and Callaway Golf working out on the Trail. Join us to help make it all happen!
