Where does your financial support go?

Contributions to the San Diego Sea to Sea Trail Foundation support a variety of ongoing programs. These include:

  • Innovative interpretive educational programs, for elementary, middle and high school children, for both the classroom and in the field.
  • Realigning or building as many sections of the Trail as possible to open them to adventurers with disabilities.
  • Building up an endowment fund to allow the Foundation to purchase land necessary to complete the entire Trail. Also, operational and maintenance costs are expected to double in 20 years. An endowment fund would generate sufficient interest revenue to cover these costs. To produce an endowment of that size within 20 years will require raising $200,000 per annum, or an initial investment of $3.5 million.
  • Publication of the biannual newsletter and trail information brochures, as well as maintenance of the Web site.
  • Construction materials (eg. timber, tools, gravel, etc) needed for Trail projects. These include bridges, benches, underpasses, etc.
  • Native plant and habitat restoration projects.
  • Maintenance of the Trail itself, including materials and tools, for the volunteers committed to the Trail’s upkeep.
  • Administrative costs incurred by the Foundation’s office.
